WordCamp is a conference that focuses on everything WordPress. WordPress is a content management system (CMS) or publishing platform that is powering over 474 million websites (43%) in the world.
WordCamps are usually informal, community-organized events that are put together by regular WordPress users. Everyone from casual WordPress users, developers, bloggers, designers, content creators can participate, share ideas, and get to know each other. Even those who haven’t started using WordPress and would like to learn, are welcome to attend. There’s no restriction on who can attend.
WordCamps attended by the WordPress community in accordance with guidelines created by WordCamp Central. This keeps the ticket prices very low for a conference of this calibre. WordCamp Lira 2024 ticket is only UGX 40,000 (or $11).
In Uganda, there have been WordCamps in Kampala, Jinja, Entebbe and Masaka. WordCamp Lira 2024 is therefore the first in northern Uganda.
The first WordCamp was organized in San Francisco by Matt Mullenweg (the founder of WordPress) in 2006, and since then local communities around the world have organized hundreds of WordCamps in different cities.
