Technology has the power to move beyond screens, it can move communities, improve health outcomes, and save lives. Code that Moves challenges WordPress developers to build practical, accessible, and scalable solutions that address real health challenges, particularly in underserved communities where access to healthcare remains limited.
Drawing from my experience as the founder of the Mic Diabetes Foundation in Northern Uganda, I have witnessed how preventable complications arise not because treatment is unavailable, but because people lack timely information, screening opportunities, follow-up, and support. Diabetes continues to be misunderstood, with many people seeking care only after severe complications have developed.
This session will explore how WordPress can become a platform for impact beyond websites. Together, we will examine opportunities to build simple yet powerful tools such as community screening trackers, patient education hubs, referral systems, appointment reminders, volunteer management platforms, multilingual health resources, and community data dashboards.
These solutions can strengthen the work of community health workers, NGOs, schools, and health facilities without requiring expensive infrastructure. The challenge is simple; build technology that responds to real human needs.
By designing with communities rather than for them, WordPress developers can create solutions that reduce health inequities, improve diabetes care, and empower vulnerable populations to live healthier lives.
