WordCamp Lira 2026 was a success as students, developers, bloggers, etc showed up in big numbers
On 29th and 30th August 2026, Lira City became a meeting point for WordPress enthusiasts, developers, designers, students, digital creators, entrepreneurs, educators, and technology enthusiasts from across Uganda and beyond as WordCamp Lira 2026 brought the WordPress community together at Lira Town College.
Under the theme “Redefining the Digital Landscape,” the two-day event created a platform for over 120 participants to learn, connect, share ideas, build relationships, and explore the opportunities presented by WordPress and the wider digital economy.
Two Days of Learning, Connection and Community
WordCamp Lira 2026 was more than a technology conference. It was a celebration of the people using technology to create opportunities, solve problems, build businesses, tell stories, and contribute to the growth of their communities.
Throughout the two days, participants had the opportunity to engage with speakers, organizers, volunteers and fellow attendees through talks, discussions, practical learning sessions, networking, and community activities.
The conversations extended beyond WordPress itself, touching on areas such as web development, design, digital entrepreneurship, content creation, online business, accessibility, artificial intelligence, and the evolving digital landscape.
For many attendees, the event provided an opportunity to discover new tools and ideas while also meeting people who share their passion for technology.
Hosting WordCamp in Lira was significant for the local technology ecosystem.
Major technology events are often concentrated in Uganda’s largest urban centres, but WordCamp Lira demonstrated that vibrant technology communities exist far beyond Kampala.
The event provided a space where students, young professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, developers and other members of the community could participate without having to travel to the capital.
It also gave the wider WordPress community an opportunity to experience the talent, creativity and potential emerging from Northern Uganda.
Students at the Heart of the Conversation
One of the important aspects of WordCamp Lira 2026 was the opportunity for students and young people to engage directly with professionals working in the digital space.
For students interested in technology, the event offered more than presentations. It provided access to people with real-world experience in web development, design, freelancing, digital entrepreneurship and other areas of the technology industry.
The networking opportunities were particularly valuable, allowing participants to make connections that could potentially develop into mentorships, collaborations, internships, projects and future business opportunities.
Although WordPress remained at the centre of the event, the conversations reflected a much bigger digital ecosystem.
The modern web is changing rapidly, with artificial intelligence, automation, accessibility, mobile technology and digital entrepreneurship influencing how people create and consume content online.
WordCamp Lira 2026 provided an opportunity for participants to think about these changes and consider how they can use emerging technologies responsibly and creatively.
